This is what the Birds' do . . .

We had almost all of the Kurt and Jan Bird family together over the weekend and got together for some fun. The kids kind of ran the agenda which ended up in some pretty intense competitions along the way. We started jumproping and it turned into see who can jump the most jumps without messing up. Sadie did really well as the only kid who could master the rope. The adventurous adults gave it a shot and it was pretty comical I must say. The grand pooba winner (as Grandpa Bird says) was . . . . . . . .ME! I jumped 56 jumps in a row (pretty pathetic I know) for the win out of the adults. I enjoyed watching everyone try to get the hang of jumproping again, like I said-VERY ENTERTAINING!!!
After a quick session of Mother-May-I becuase the big boys kept cheating, we turned to a roping competition to see who could rope another person running away the fastest. It ended up being a competition between the three brothers while the kids played in the sandbox. I have never seen a man move so fast as not to get caught by a lasso loop! Highly comical as well.

Fourth of July

Since the Fourth was on a Sunday, we celebrated a little different this year. On Saturday we went to Salmon's Horse Relay Races to watch all the fun races. The races consist of actual running horse races with riders, to carrying a banana as a baton for a relay race and many more fun things to see. Each year they have a stick horse race for kids. Sadie was excited to participate this year and geared up for running. She didn't win the race but she would have won the place for the most competitive if they awarded it! The race takes place on the race track and they have a person standing at the end of the race for the kids. Well there were three kids who didn't see the end so they kept on running. If fact they ran all the way to the back side of the track and had to have a horse and rider go stop them! Sadie was one of them and she said " I didn't want to stop first, Mom."
The other event specifically for kids is the pig chase. They get a piglet to run around the arena and the first kid to catch it gets to keep it. Sadie ran hard but couldn't hold on to the pig once she had it in her grasp. Lexi stood there watching all the kids get the pig, she wasn't quite sure how to take it. She was worried for the pig.
On Sunday after church, some friends of ours, the Herbsts, came over to hang out, have lunch and watch the parade. It was a fun filled day with lots of running around, eating and candy! We are so very blessed to live in our country where we are free to make out own choices. I thank my Father in Heaven for the many blessings we have from our freedom.
